Gary Rossington is Lynyrd Skynyrd’s last surviving original member and luckily, he’s still surviving after a serious heart attack on October 8.

It’s not the first time Rossington has experienced problems with his ticker. He had a quintuple bypass in 2003 and doctors have added or repaired stents inserted during that and previous surgeries a number of times. On the plus side, he’s been discharged from hospital and has sent a Facebook message to fans: “I just wanted to thank everyone for all the well wishes and support. I will be back before you know it! It’s gonna take more than a lil ole heart attack to keep me down.”

Rossington’s heart attack caused the cancellation of two Lynyrd Skynyrd shows. The band’s next gig is in November.
