On March 25th, 1977, the Ottawa Rough Riders were reigning Grey Cup champions and CHEZ 106 signed onto the air playing a classic tune by Stevie Wonder. At the time, Stevie Wonder was very famous for his song ‘Superstition’. And in the great tradition of all superstitions, a curse was born at that moment. For almost 40 years, CHEZ 106 rocked Ottawa. But in all that time, no Ottawa CFL team would again reach the pinnacle of their sport – the Grey Cup.

This year, we decided to do something about it. If demolishing Babe Ruth’s childhood home could lead the Boston Red Sox to a miraculous comeback from a 3-0 deficit in the ALCS and their first World Series title in 86 years, then what could we do to reverse this terrible luck? That is why, earlier this year, we changed our name and logo. We figured we could reverse the CHEZ curse simply by reversing our own name. And so we went from ‘CHEZ 106’ to ‘1061 CHEZ’. What followed was one of the most improbable and stunning runs to a Grey Cup championship in CFL history. You’re welcome, Ottawa.
