Part 4: 5 Outdoor Adventures to Try This Summer

Well…it’s that time of year. August has come and gone, and September is upon us. Although summer doesn’t officially end until September 23, and we’ll be sad to see it go… the fall does bring some pretty awesome things like cooler weather and Football Sundays and perhaps the best part of all…tons of red, yellow, and orange leaves!!

Here are some places where you can take in the changing leaves near Ottawa this fall. Don’t wait too long though…it’ll be over before you know it!

Gatineau Park – 15 minutes from downtown Ottawa

At 361 square kilometres, Gatineau Park has some of the most spectacular views of the Ottawa area. The best views can be seen by hiking the trails up to the highest peaks.

The Arboretum – 15 minutes from downtown Ottawa

If you enjoy hiking, walking your dog, or just generally getting outdoors without going too far out of town, you might enjoy the Dominion Arboretum. It sprawls across 64-acres and has thousands of woody plants. It’s located just on the opposite side of the Rideau Canal and provides a beautiful landscape to see the changing colours of the fall leaves.

Calabogie Peaks – 1.5 hours from downtown Ottawa

Ride the chairlift up 780 feet to the top of Dickson Mountain for a breathtaking view of the beautiful Ottawa Valley. At the top, explore the Skywalk hiking loop and then walk down any of the ski trails or enjoy a ride down the chairlift when you’re ready to return to the base of the mountain.

Mount Sutton – 3.5 hours from Ottawa

Stop in the town of Sutton between September 17 and October 16 for the Mount Sutton Fall Festival. You’ll be able to enjoy a chairlift ride, go on a guided hike and partake in yoga on the mountain. Afterwards, relax at the foot of the hill with a BBQ and some live music.
