Kirk Hammett doesn’t sound 100% creatively satisfied, while working with Metallica…

During an episode of Rolling Stone‘s new feature “Musicians on Musicians“, Hammet revealed to fellow musician (and big-time Mettalica fan) St. Vincent that his ideas get shut down by other members of the band – or as he says, the ‘Tone Police’ – quite frequently.

“(I try to) sneak in jazz voicings and chords, little techniques here and there … And (when they get shut down for being too bluesy) I’m like, ‘Fucking hell, it’s just a slide. All right, whatever, tone police.’ But you need tone police. Tone is super important.”

The two musicians went on to talk more in-depth about the creative process and turning rage in to music.
